Show Book Shower Planned by Ladies Clubs The Ladies Literary Club and the Junior Literary Club are sponsoring a book shower for the public library li-brary which will be held on Monday Mon-day night, February 18th. The, limited budget of the library board . has not allowed the purchase of ( books commensurate with the increasing in-creasing demand for reading material. mater-ial. The clubs feel that the project will accomplish a two-fold purpose, that of increasing the reading supply sup-ply and also of increasing the interest inter-est in good reading among many people who are not regular patrons of the library. There is no - doubt but that many of the homes of our city hold books which the families have either outgrown or after a reading or two have placed on the shelf, and forgotten. In these days of unemployment there are many people of our community com-munity to whom reading has been a boon and the public library has given them through the printed pages some escape from the worries of everyday living. The sponsors of the book shower are asking for a concerted effort on the part of the women of our community to share books for which they have no further fur-ther use and which their families have been benefited and uplifted by, with others- The big demand is for good reading read-ing material, fiction of a desirable type, books of travel, etc- Obsolete text books are not desired. The purpose is not merely to fill the shelves but to give the public good reading material- Every woman's organization in the city, of which there are about twenty-six, will be contacted and each member will be invited to the program and will be requested to bring a book for admission- A splendid program will be arranged ar-ranged and all may anticipate a worthwhile entertainment. The committees com-mittees in charge, selected from the two clubs are: Program, Mrs. W. R. Halliday, Mrs. West Hammond, Mrs. Elmo Peters and Mrs- La Veil Singleton; Arrangements and decorations, dec-orations, Mrs. Sherman Robinson, Mrs- Spencer Taylor, Mrs- Joseph Nicholes and Mrs. Hans Christen-sen; Christen-sen; Invitation, Mrs. Byron Crook-ston, Crook-ston, Mrs. Grant Ingersoll and Mrs. Clarence Grant- |
