Fork organist jolos with symphony V- Opera and organ are featured by Utah Valley Symphony with Dr. Ralph G Laycock conducting in the Provo Tabernacle Wednesday, March 9, at 8 p.m. ' opening the even.ng, the orchestra or-chestra will play Richard Wagner s "'Introduction to Act III of Lohengrin." Six short operatic arias ollow sung by soprano Debbie Mitchell. They are from Bellini's iLa Somnambula," Verdi's Rigoletto," Gounod's "Romeo and Juliet " Puccini's "Gianni Schicci," Menotti's "The Old Maid and the rhief," and Bernstein's "Candide." Following intermission, the last ialf of the evening will be Camille Saint-Saens' "Symphony in C Minor, No. 3, Op. 78." Soloist will be y. Parley L. Belnap, organist, issisted by pianists Rhoda Vaun young and Marian Monson. Dr. Belnap is chairman of the )rgan area of music at BYU and ilso is University Organist. Belnap eceived his B.A. and M.A. at BYU. He received his D.M.A. at the jniversity of Colorado. He has itudied with Frank Asper and J.J. (eeler at BYU; Marcel Dupre in Dr. Parley Belnap Paris, France; and Flor Peters in Belgium, under whom he received two graduate degrees at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp. Belnap is the author of "Hymn Studies for Organists." He is married to Bona Belliston and they have six sons and one daughter. It is requested that there be no children under six years of age in the audience. |
