Show Lady Vikes enter state tourney after downing Sp; Fork72-53 The Lady Vikings wrapped up a .winning season with a victory over Spanish Fork and tied for third with Timpview in Region 8. ' The four seniors, playing their last home game were honored before the game began. Kristine 'Larson, Kirsten Van Dyke, Hope Smith and Erin Measom were recognized . ; In their highest scoring game :since pre-season, the Lady Vikes romped over the Spanish Fork Dons, winning 72-53. Their early lead was short lived and a see-saw Jbattle began. Vikki Allred's three pointer was matched by the Dons as was other points scored by the PG team and the score was tied 19 all at the end of the first quarter. In the second period Allred scored another 'home run' and by half time was 3 for 4 from 3 point range, stepping up the tempo to help pull . the Vikings ahead, and they walked off the court at half time leading 36-30. 36-30. Pleasant Grove broke the game open in the third quarter with Lisa Hall hitting two 3-pointers to add to the momentum as well as the points. Viking spirit and pride were apparent and offense was the biggest factor in the remainder of regulation play. Four, players scored in double figures, Allred had 13 in the first half with Hall adding 10 in the second half. Erin Measom ended the game with 14 and Van Dyke had 10. , Last night's first round of tournament tour-nament play found the Vikings against Provo as a result of a new and controversial system in effect this year in seeding tournament teams. A coin was flipped, giving Timpview the edge. The second round of play will be on Thursday, Mar. 3 at Roy High. The winner in the PG vs. Provo game will play at 8:10 p.m. and the loser at 4:10 p.m. |
