Show Lady Vikings clobber Carbon, Payson; they anticipate strong season finish The Lady Vikings, who are tied for third in Region 8, added two big wins to their record this week by defeating the Carbon Dinos and Payson Lions. The team's seven seniors were recognized prior to the game before they performed in the last "home game' of their high school career. Those seniors honored were Vikki Allred, Pam Beagley, Lori Curtis, Korrie Estes, Mindy Hall, Jenny Wells, and Trade Williamson. William-son. Experiencing a sluggish start early in the season, the Vikes have come on strong to finish Region Re-gion play. Coach Marie Bone said it best after the Carbon game, "We're on our way. Things are starting to go well for us." Against Carbon, the Vikings Vi-kings were able to set up a strong offensive attack, getting 73 hitting attempts during the match. Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove's powerful offense carried car-ried them quickly to a 13-2 lead in the first game but they let down on defense to watch the Dinos make a great come-back and win the first game 16-14. The Vikings bounced back to trounce Carbon in the next two games, however, winning 15-9 and 15-4. The second game was tied several times early but the Vikings pulled ahead and out-distanced their opponents. Game three had its own personality and the Vikings whittled away one or two points at a time throughout the entire game, building the score steadily while Carbon squeaked out only a total of 4 points. Tracie Williamson led with 15 kills and nine blocks. Vikki Allred added 9 blocks, Pam Beagley had 7 and Jenny Wells four. Lori Curtis served 4 points in game one, 6 in game two and 9 in game three. At Payson on Thursday Vikki Allred and Tracie Williamson William-son led Pleasant Grove to 15-7 and 15-3 victories. Allred had six kills and four blocks while Williamson added six kills and three blocks. Lori Curtis added 3 more blocks. Allred served 7 points in game two. The Vikings scored the first 5 points in game one and although al-though Payson worked hard they trailed the entire game. In game two, it was Payson who scored first, which was the only time they had the lead. Immediately Lori Curtis tied the score with her first serve, then Vikki Allred served six straight to put the Vikes further ahead. Jenny Wells added 2 more before the Lions scored again, making it 9-2 for P.G. Tracie Williamson's 5 in a row gave the Vikings the advantage they needed to ride the crest of the wave out front. Payson could only muster one more before Mindy Hall spiked the game point for the 15-4 win. The Lady Vikes ended region play last night at Timpview. Scores were unavailable at press time.
