Show Council supports UP &L-Pacific Corp. merger float and other city equipment. The building is about 48 feet by 100 feet. The city council was not sure of where the new building will be placed. The ambulances will need to be moved from the back of the old city hall if that building is sold or razed. They may be moved to the building the parks department has been using. It was reported that the electrical wiring for the ambulance bays needs to be redone in the near future if the ambulances are not moved. Councilman Dave Faux told the cuncil that 18 or 19 families in North Pleasant Grove have asked for garbage collection service through the city. These families mainly live along 1300 West, the councilman said. Laidlaw Waste Systems had said they would be happy to begin collections for those homes. The council will continue to check to see if other families desire the service. Before the council makes a decision regarding fees for opening and closing double-deep grave sites in the cemetery, they will invited Sexton Parker Cullimore to the meeting to get his input. Questions were raised about the chances of a cave-in while excavating ex-cavating the double-deep graves. After interviewing seven of the applicants for assistant city librarian, the committee has recommended that two assistant librarians be hired because of the work load. The council was told that the merger would not effect other communities with their own power. They said that Pacific Corp has a lot of surplus power and lower rates. They will sell this to Utah and so the rates to UP&L customers would go down. The council then approved signing the resolution favoring the proposed merger. A resident, Faye Faunce, met with the council to discuss the need for handicapped parking in Pleasant Grove, especially on Main Street. The council asked Community i Development Director Doug Bezzant Bez-zant to recommend locations for the handicapped parking. The council was in favor of providing the needed parking places. Mrs. Faunce also asked for permission per-mission to place a gate on her property which motorcycle riders use for access to the northeast side of town. The road they use is not a dedicated street. The council told her that if the others who normally use the lane do not object to the gate, and there is no legal reason why the lane should not be closed, then she had their approval ap-proval to put the gate in place. The mayor also stated that he would discuss the riding of the dirt bikes in that area with the Public Safety Committee. Councilman Lloyd Ash reported that the city had been able to purchase pur-chase a surplus steel quonset-type building for $500. A decision was to be made soon on who the new assistant librarians would be. The council was told that there have been about $25,000 in donations to the new library and many of these are from out of state and . from Lindon. There has been about $40,000 donated for the Senior Citizen Center. A question had arisen regarding Memoriam donations for the library where a picture and information about a person can be placed in the new library for a donation of $1,000. It is permissible for two people, such as a husband and wife, to be memorialized if they are included in the same portrait. Another question was whether a person still living could be memorialized. This is perfectly alright, the council members said. Mayor Holdaway noted that Governor Norm Bangerter had told him he felt very good about his trip to Pleasant Grove to see the Bicentennial Dance Festival held in conjunction with the Community Fair on Sept. 5. He said that the governor gets many such invitations and has to turn down most of them but was very pleased that he decided to come . to the local program. - The city council also signed three proclamations including one for Constitution Week on Sept. 17 through 23 and joining the nation in ringing the bells across America. Another proclamation set aside October as Cosmetology Month. The theme for the month is "Ask us, America, we'll groom you for success." The council also signed a proclamation for the U S. Soccer Federation which is making an effort to get the 1994 World Cup in the United States. |
