Show PGHS tracksters gain trophy Pleasant Grove captured the traveling trophy in the annual Tri-City Tri-City track meet Thursday. Running on the Viking track, the Pleasant Grove boys scored 97 points to 71 for American Fork and 12 for Lehi. In an unusual move, Mountain View was invited to the Tri-City meet and they scored 69 points for third place. In the 1970's the then track coaches, Jack Hill and Darold Henry started the Tri-City Meet and had the shop class construct a three sided trophy. The trophy goes to the boys team that wins the annual meet and they keep it until the next meet. PG won the trophy the first three years but since then it has been held by Lehi and AF with the Cavemen winning the last three years before Thursday. Ron Reynolds was a double winner for the Vikes with first place in the 1600 m and 3200 m runs. Reynolds also was third in the 800 m. Robert Jolley outdistanced his rival from Mountain View by throwing the javelin 183'3". Colyar of Mountain View was second at 178' 10". Wayne Eddington led a trio of Viking high jumpers to a 1-2-3 finish in the high jump. Eddington jumped 6'0". , Blaine Maez continued his consistent con-sistent running by taking second in both the 1600 m and 3200 m. Other point winners for the boys were: Tom Hashimoto, Billy Adamson, Chris Larsen, Paul Mattinson, Gerel Newman, Ron and Todd Simmons, Brett Henrie,- Kurt Montgomery, Stan Harvey and Rick Mayo. In the girls meet, Mountain View was the winner with 81 points and Lehi was second with 58. PG and AF tied with 52.' First place finishers for the Lady Vikes were Debbie Fisher, Jill West, Lila Fugal and Rhonda Simmons. Other point winners for PG were Christine Lutes, Carole Sevey, Michelle smith. PG will be the host school for the Region 8 meet scheduled for tomorrow. Trials get underway at 9 a.m. with the finals in the afternoon. af-ternoon. Based on performances this year, the Vikes have a good chance to win the boys title. Springville will be favored in the girls meet. . |
