L-R, Debby Heelis and Karen Van Orden present painting to Principal Eugene Maag of Lindon School in recognition of Cultural Arts Week. Lindon School enjoys cultural arts Enrichment through the arts was the theme of the Lindon Elementary Cultural Arts Week. The objective was to expose the children to some of the fine arts and help them to use their own imaginations. Karen Van Orden was in charge and did an outstanding out-standing job in bringing varied artists and performers to the school. On Monday, the Pleasant Grove Junior High Orchestra, Carleen Veenker and the Lindon Elementary Elemen-tary string group performed. Debby Heelis gave a demonstration demon-stration on painting on Tuesday. She encouraged the children to appreciate their own art work and have fun with painting. The boys and girls helped to paint two pictures pic-tures that were finished by Debby and Bobbi Beagley and presented to Mr. Maag and Lindon School. Donna Price gave a demonstration demon-stration on puppets on Wednesday. She showed how puppets could be made from common household items. Thursday brought the Utah Opera. They gave a performance of Little Red Riding Hood. The children cheered "Bravo" at the end of the performance. On Friday, the famous local sculptor, Grant Speed, showed how to make a horse. He also answered questions from the students. The most exciting results of the week were the reports that came back from the parents. Children were practicing what they had learned. Some homes reported children singing opera - even while setting the table. Some children made puppets and sculptored animals. Others painted and colored, requesting to have their pictures framed. All-in-all, it was an exciting week at Lindon Elementary. |
