Christensen and David Adamson; Back, Chester Slade, Blaine Nielsen, Larry Adamson and Mark Neeley. Neil Christensen sustained as bishop Neil C. Christensen was sustained as bishop of the Pleasant Grove Sixth Ward, Manila Stake, Sunday, along with Dennis R. Bills .first counselor, and David P. Adamson, second counselor. Sustained as executive secretary was Chester Slade; Larry Adamson as ward clerk; Mark C. Neeley and Blaine A. Nielsen as assistant clerks. Released after several years of service were Bishop Dale War-burto- n and his counselors Carl Clark andNephiBurgener."1 Bishop Christensen was born and raised in Levan. He graduated from Juab High School and received his B.S. Degree from Utah State University and his M.S. and ad-ministrative training from BYU. He is married to the former Alice Louise Wintch of Manti. They have six children: Kay, Carol, Douglas, Scott, Karen and Paul. He is the principal of Lehi High School and previously taught shop and drafting at Pleasant Grove High Scholl, Pleasant Grove Junior High, Lincoln Jr. High, and in the Sevier District for a short time. He spent two' years in the U. S." Army and has served 25 years in the Utah National Guard. He is currently retired as a Colonel from the Guard but is in the stand-b- y reserve. Bishop Christensen has served as a high councilman, Young Men's president, counselor in the Elder's Quorum and various other positions. He enjoys being in the outdoors with his wife and family. They snow ski, water ski, hunt, camp and fish together. The family runs a small ranch with Neil's two brothers and their families and they enjoy working with the stock. Dennis was born and raised in Herriman, Utah. He is the son of Elton E. and Isabell Bills. He graduated from Bingham High School and served four years in the Navy. He is married to the former Shari McDonald of Roosevelt and they are the parents of seven children. The Bills family has lived in Pleasant Grove for six years and they love it. Dennis works for J. W. Brewer TireinProvo. David was born in Lehi and raised in Salt Lake. He graduated from Granite High School and then from BYU, receiving bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. He is presently principal of the Dan W. Peterson School and in private practice as a psychologist. He has been a bishop's counselor, High Priest Group leader, assistant ward clerk, scoutmaster, Sunday School Superintendent and many other positions. He has received the Silver Beaver for his work in scouting and has been given a special Award of Merit by the. Association for Retarded Citizens for his work with the han-dicapped and the Army Achievement Medal for his leadershp in the Army Reserve. He and his wife, Alice Jean Adamson, moved to Pleasant Grove from Provo in 1969 and have raised their six children,. David J., Robert, " Billy, Tom, Bonnie Jean, and Michael, who is deceased, in the community. Chester was born in Durango, Colorado and went to high school at Globe, Ariz. He moved to Pleasant Grove in 1959. He married Phyllis , Zufelt and they have four children, three daughters and one son. They have six grandchildren. He has served as executive secretary and assistant executive secretary and Sunday School president, and twice as Elder's Quorum secretary. He works for U. S. Steel at Geneva. Larry was the second of five sons born to Grant A. and Anna Boren Adamson. He grew up in Pleasant Grove, graduating from Pleasant Grove High School. His high school experience was highlighted by being Seminary President and attending the Summer Freedom Academy at Camp Williams, sponsored by the Utah National Guard, as one of two Pleasant Grove boys that year who showed leadership potential. Larry has a daughter, Gina Lynn, by his first marriage. He is married to Gail Fugal and they have two children, Grant, age 5, and Jewel Ann, age 2. He has been employed in Washington and Arizona and has worked as a mechanic for Niels Fugal & Sons since 1977. He was ward clerk and assistant ward clerk under the former bishopric. Mark is married to Susan Wilson and they have four children. He served an LDS mission in Chile for two years. He graduated from BYU in engineering geology and now is employed by the Bureau of Reclamation. ; .. He has served, as executive secretary and Young Men:s president in Colorado, i ' ' "Xhile'Symgin Pleasant Groyejie --has served in the Elder's Quorum:" ;-- He is the son of Earl and Clarice Neeley of Yuma, Ariz. Blaine was born in Provo and raised in Wyoming. He moved to Pleasant Grove in 1949 and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He is a graduate of Utah Technical College, Provo, in sheet metal drafting and layout. He is currently employed as a sheet metal estimator for Carver Sheet Metal Works in Salt Lake City. He is married to' Mary Rasmussen and they are the parents of four boys and three girls. They have four grandchildren. His hobbies include gardening, reading, fishing and fly tying. Timp Stake plans three-ac- t play "If Mother Only Knew", a new three-ac- t comedy by Donald Payton, will be presented Wednesday, May 22, at 8 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Sixteenth Ward, Timpanogos Stake, 193 N. 400 East. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge. The event, sponsored by the Timpanogos Stake, is directed by Lois Tervort. The cast includes Lois Cottle as Mrs. Maxwell; Donna Basttian as Aunt Mary; Melinda Pymm as Connie Maxwell; Shalaine Grim-sha-as Betty Lou Maxwell; Kim Lamoreaux as Bernadine; Darrin Brown as Wilbur Maxwell; Jeff Weeks as Hercale Nelson; Aaron Hawker as Mr. John Maxwell; Bobbie Clasby as Gladys Gooch; Cragun Folger as Charles "Brain" Burke; Dr. Jeffery Gooch, Jay Macfarlane; and Scott Butterfield as Badge Barns. r" - Mary Oliphant Mary Oliphant honored for volunteer service ' Mary Oliphant, daughter of Roland and Yvonne Oliphant of Pleasant Grove, has been given the prestigious Carnation Community Service Award in a ceremony held at the State Capitol recently. Mary was nominated for the award by Jeanne Blackburn who is in charge of volunteer services at the Utah State Training School in American Fork. Mary, 15, works as a direct care volunteer at the school. She started volunteer work at the school in 1982 when she was only 12 years of age. She was assigned to the pre-scho-area in Pleasant View. In this building many of the residents are confined to wheelchairs and need total care. The staff in the building are well pleased with the help Mary provides for them. Mrs. Blackburn stated that Mary is a dependable and responsible young lady. She has a very good working relationship with the staff. She is caring and loving with all the residents and gives them one to one attention, sharing activities, singing songs, reading stories, taking the students on walks, helping with feeding meals, bathing, dressing, etc. In addition to her volunteer work, Mary is a special friend to one specific resident whom she takes to her own home for visits. Mary is a very dedicated volun-teer and she encourages other youth to get involved, also, Mrs. Black-burn stated. Since Mary began volunteering in 1982, she has donated 950 hours of her time to serving the handicapped. Mary is a sophomore at Pleasant Grove High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in the chorus. Jf.atalie Wall and Minde Rogers have received letters from Ple in Minnesota who found their 5oonSattaChed t0 the deflated enri6!.eral of the Lindon balloons up in Minnesota. The winds must have been just right. Jolff received a letter from Shaver of Leonard, Minn. which stated that Leonard is in northwestern Minnesota by the city of Bemidji. The town has a population of 50. Jolene is in the second grade and is eight years old. She goes to school at Clearbrook. In her letter, Jolene said that after school on April 29 she went out to get her horse and found the balloon tag in her pasture. She said she and her mom wrote to the TV station and asked the weather man to let them know what weather brought the balloon to them. She was happy to find it and said thank you for sharing your fun. Mindy received a note from Gene Bendickson of Bejou, Minn. It said that he found the balloon in the midddle of a large field and thought he would return it. He also lived in Northwestern, Minn. He found the balloon on April 27. The children at Lindon School sent off the balloons, each with a card attached which included their name, school and city and how many books they had read. Balloons were also found in Wyoming and North Dakota. |
