Show BYU to present dance concert BYU's national champion ballroom dancers will present their fourth annual Dance in Concert Feb. 21 (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse. The concert has been expanded by two additional nights, Feb. 22 and 23 (Friday and Saturday). Tickets are available through the Marriott Center Ticket Office, 378-5666, 378-5666, and in Salt Lake City at 355-9168. 355-9168. Among the new numbers to be presented is Espana, a Latin number choreographed by Vernon Brock of Houston, Texas. The dancers will use Spanish capes with new costumes. Also new is a Viennese waltz by company director Lee Wakefield. Thirty-six women will glide in powder blue and white ballgowns, while their male counterparts wear white tie and tails. In all, 24 numbers are planned, ranging from the fun of the movie "Footloose" and the comedy of Miss Piggy to the samba, swing, Broadway production numbers, cha cha, Charleston, boogie woogie and adaptations from theater. This past year the Ballroom Dance Company traveled to the Orient where it danced before the Queen of Thailand and for more than 6,000 spectators in Shanghai. It appeared on Chinese television before an estimated 200 million viewers. The dancers were also guests at the World Professional Ten Dance Championships in Montreal, Canada and toured Southern California. |
