Tatam scored 8 in a losing cause, as both teams had balanced scoring with 14 players entering the scoring column. Celtics 35 Knicks 26 Gilbert with 13 and a Butterfield with 12 led the Celtics to a critical victory over the Knicks. Frampton with 10 big points was not enough to counter the high scoring of Gilbert and But-terfield. The Knicks made a rally in the third quarter and narrowed the game to 21-1- 7 and appeared to be on their way as they were doing everything right. However, the Celtics rebounded with 14 big points to ward off the challenge. The seventheighth grade Jr. Jazz program has two weeks left, with the city tournament slated to begin the evening of March 5. Teams are playing for positions in this tour-nament as they vie for the favored bye spots. Standings Division I Pacers 1 Lakers 3 Spurs 4-- 4 Celtics 6 Knicks 7 Division II s 8-- 0 Jazz 1 Cougars 5 Bucks 2-- 6 Suns 7 The Spirits retained their un-beaten record in the Jr. Jazz 7th and 8th grade league, as they won the big inter-divisio- n test against the third place Spurs from Division I. Swenson and Church led the Spirits to a 17-- 8 first quarter lead, which proved to be too big for the Spurs to overcome. Church with 14 points was high point man for the game, followed by Swenson with 12. VanDyke had 11 and Allred had 9 for the Spurs. This game sets the stage for the big showdown between the two Division II powerhouses this week, as the Spirits meet the Jazz. Pacers 36 - Lakers 25 The Pacers withstood the test from a good Laker team and i retained their leadership in Division II. A big second quarter opened up a 22 to 9 score at halftime. Even though the Lakers rallied and never quit, the big halftime lead was just too much to overcome. Fraughton led the Pacers with 12, with six others players contributing, and Brown had 8 for the Lakers. Cougars 30 - Suns 24 A dry spell in the third quarter spelled the downfall of the Suns team this foggy afternoon. The Cougars scored 10 while the Suns managed only 3 points in the third. This scoring outburst broke open a tight game which saw the teams tied 15-a- ll at half time. Green, who seems to have recovered fully from an ankle injury, was the game's high scorer with 14 big points as he led the Cougars. Chipman put in 7 points to lead the Suns. Jazz 44 - Bucks 31 Ash with 10 big points was the game's highest scorer as he led his Jazz teammates to the big win over the Bucks. The win kept the Jazz Shawn wins! Shawn Pueblo finished his Pleasant Grove wrestling career with a State Championship in the 138 pound class Saturday night. Pueblo gained a close hard fought 0 decision over Uintah's Mike Smith to earn the title and help PG to a fifth place finish in the State tournament held at Murray High School. Uintah won the team title with 164 points over defending State team champions, Spanish Fork. The Don's had 132 points with Timpview at 94, Tooele 87.5 and Pleasant Grove 87. Lonnie Harris had to settle for second place at 112 pounds. After the regulation nine minute match ended in a tie, Jed Ashworth of Spanish Fork, who was second a year ago, edged the PG sophomore 3--0 in overtime. Dan Phelon, a junior Viking, was fourth in the heavyweight class after dropping a 2 decision to ; Philip Garcia of South in the con solation finals. In the 155 pound class, junior Chad Maxfield placed fifth for the Vikings. . " 1 " .' - " J)l '.'-- ' l J K ' . ) . . .. ' j iv If i ' i ? A li I '' H - I I & i v , , . , - s - . . ; y - . V .
