Show Fine cast brings 'Brigadoon' to life delight. The songs in "Brigadoon" are among my favorites and, as one member of the audience said, "I could listen to Jeff Peterson sing all day long." It is true. He has a way of belting out a song in a way that makes you wish it wouldn't end. He did the same thing in "Oklahoma" and is repeating himself here in "Brigadoon," as he plays the lead role of Tommy, the boy from New York who finds himself in an enchanted en-chanted village in Scotland. His sidekick, Jeff Douglas, is played by Dean Nickels. I don't know where he has been hiding, but he has a great comedy talent and added the comic touch to the show, plus a bit of the irony that prevails in the world today. Dean lives in Pleasant Grove, as does Keith Christeson, who plays Archie Beaton in the show. He is a fine performer and it is good to see him in so many of the local productions. Jan Mecham kept the level of humor high, also, in her role as Meg Brockie, the man chaser. In a bit of a different role than we have seen her in before, Pleasant Grove's Jennifer Lund made a gorgeous Bonnie Jean. In prior productions she has been cast in more flamboyant parts and this was a nice new side to her abilities. Michelle Palmer, also of Pleasant Grove, made a fine showing as a very dignified, sophisticate and fiancee' of Tommy's in New York. This show is directed by Cathy Johnston, who received the Best Director award for last year. The play will run from now until June 2 on Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. By MARCELLA WALKER I knew I was going to enjoy the production as soon as I heard the bagpiper playing in front of the theater when we went to see "Brigadoon," which is now showing on stage at the Alhambra Theater in Pleasant Grove. The authentic flavor of the show was increased with the appearance of the man in the Scottish kilt playing the bagpipes on the sidewalk outside the theater. The bagpipers also played during the show. One of the nice things about this production of "Brigadoon" is the colorful cast which fills the stage for many of the scenes. This show has a large number of dancing numbers, all Scottish in origin, and they are all well choreographed. Of special note was the sword dance done during the wedding ceremony, and the other was Bonnie Jean and her lassie friends who dance prior to the wedding. Keith Judd, who has performed many times at the Alhambra and recently received the best supporting sup-porting actor award for his portrayal por-trayal of Ali Hakin in "Oklahoma," was able to show off his great talent as a folk dancer in this production. His training has been in dance and he performed to the audience's JEFF PETERSON stars as Tommy in the Alhambra Theater production of "Brigadoon" now showing on stage in Pleasant Grove. Jeff is remembered for his role as "Curly" in "Oklahoma." |
