Show r p -- - s s " v s s " S 5 " X " " " . : r ; f K I " N V ' ' f , K -''.v ,v Pageant of Arts art show judged Winning entries in the Youth Art Exhibit sponsored by the Utah Pageant of the Arts were chosen Saturday a not so easy task when approximately 1,000 entries are involved. The winners will be seen at the Youth Exhibit held in connection with the Utah Pageant of the Arts June 9 through July 20. A "Best of the Show" was chosen along with sweepstakes winners in each grade, kindergarten through 12. The top winners will receive a $50 U.S. Savings Bond at opening night ceremonies. Other representative entries will be hung in the exhibit, with each to receive a certificate denoting this honor and achievement. Approximately 28,000 people are expected to view the show during the run of the exhibit. I Marcia Peterson, project I chairman, and Geri Draper, I coordinator, said entries were I received from all over the state ! ranging from as far south as Hanksville and from Brigham City I and Ixtgan on the north. Entries were grouped by grade I for judging at the Pageant Center, j Judging was by four professional artists and a specialist in children's I art. Entries in all mediums including I pencil, crayon, pastel and oils are j included, however crafts were not permitted. Sculpture work was accepted and encouraged. All paintings were mounted. Judges were impressed with the quality of work entered in each grade and wre hard pressed to determine the final winners. Each entry was considered individually and against other grade level I works. Award of merit winners included Bret Poulsen, sixth grade, Shelley School, American Fork; Chris Fehr, eleventh grade, American Fork High School; and )oue Ra, elfth grade, American School. Admission to the exhibit is included in the price of Pageant tickets. The exhibit is open before and after the production each pageant night. An entry by Jon McNaughton, an eleventh grade student from Mountain View High School in Orem, took "Best of the Show" honors, Mrs. Peterson said.
