Show Brazilian conductor will lead symphony in Provo ; - ' - s 'y f f. r- J ' f -.V''X ' "'V 1 Brazilian guest conductor Eduardo Ostergren will conduct the Utah Valley Symphony Wednesday night, March 9, at 8 p.m. in the Provo Tabernacle. Eduardo Ostergren was bom in San Paulo, Brazil. He has conducted extensively in Brazil and throughout the United States. His musical career has been furthered by his association with Brazilian composer Camargo Guarnieri and the late Don Gillis. He came to the United States in 1967 on scholarship to obtain an M.A. in choral directing from Southern Methodist University. Following this he became conductor of the North Carolina State University Symphony in Raleigh, N.C. He received his Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University and moved to Lafayette, Ind. where he is a member of the faculty of Purdue University and conductor and musical director of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Opening the Wednesday night program will be Ludwig van Beethoven's "King Stephen Overture" followed by Alexander Borodin's "In the Steppes of Central Asia, Opus 1" and Jean Sibelius's "Karelia Suite, Opus 1." After intermission the final number will be Antonin Dvorak's "Symphony No. 4, in G. Major, Opus 88." The Utah Valley Symphony will present its fifth and last of its concert series for 1982-S3 on April 13 with Conductor Ralph G. Laycock at the podium. This Pops Concert will feature popular pops music and JoLane Slade playing the Gershwin Piano Concerto. EDUARDO OSTERGREN |
