The 'Spirit of America' to be presented by American Heritage School students and staff On Friday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Junior High School auditorium, the American Heritage School will provide, without charge, an evening of entertainment for all patrons, parents, friends and area residents. The complete student body of 227 children will present an original patriotic program of dancing, singing, elocution and instrumental music entitled "The Spirit of America Speaks." Its script written by facult y member Geneve Cornell, depicts the history of freedom from ancient to modern times, and its relationship to our own lives. Pleasant Grove , Kent McDonald chosen for studies program Math Club Vice Pres. He is a member of Key Club and the National Honor Society. We would like to wish Kent good luck and we congratulate him in this honor! Kent McDonald is one example of the fantastic students attending Pleasant Grove High School. He has been accepted to attend BYU's advanced High School studies program, in Computer Science, which takes place during August. The program lasts two weeks and in those two weeks, he will complete one full semister. Kent will get BYU credit, and there is no cost. Kent is the son of Ralph and Wanda McDonald, he is a junior at PGHS. His interests are; camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. He enjoys football and photography, and he also raises rabbits. Academic decathlon team brings home silver and bronze On February 18th and 19th a team from Pleasant Grove High School represented the Alpine School District at the First Annual Utah Academic Decathlon. The Pleasant Grove team brought home three medals. Rob Reiser won a bronze medal in the Scholastic division economics competition and Steve Liddle, competing in the Honors division, won a bronze medal in English grammer and literature and a silver medal in social science. The Academic Decathlon was hosted at Dixie College in St. George.-Ea- ch school district in the state sent a team of six members to the Decathlon. Each team was divided into three categories: Honors, Scholastic, and Varsity. For Pleasant Grove the team members were as follows: James Watson and Steve Liddle, Honors; Rob Reiser and Craig Chadwick, Scholastic; Andy Mingl and Wesley Voss, Varsity. The team coach was Mr. E. Mark Bezzant. The team placed approximately 8th in the statewide competition. Special thanks go to Mr. Kent Prestwich who was good enough to provide housing for the team while they were in St. George. Pleasant Grove High School March Calendar 3.
