Show s .... . . I Jason Firth To Be Exchange Student In Sao Paulo, Brazil i , 1 ; t ' A Jason D. Firth, a junior at Pleasant Grove High School will spend the next 12 months with the Riciori Maturo family in Matao, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Jason is participating with 16 other students in an exchange program sponsored by the Rotary Clubs in Utah, which interviewed and selected each applicant based upon their ability to represent the United States. The exchange students this year will be in eight different countries including Australia, Brazil, Finalnd, France, Japan, New Zealand, the Phillipines, and Sweden. Exept for travel to and from Brazil, Jason's visit will lie paid for by members of the Rotary Club in Brazil. James is being sponsored by the Timpanogos Rotary Club, which is hosting Priscilla Ferazolli of Sao Paulo, Brazil for 12 months. She has been a guest of the Thomas Anderson family in Alpine, and the lJick Bate family in American Fork Purpose of the ex-change program is to develop international understanding and good will through an ex-change of students who will live in a foreign country as a member of a Rotarian's family, where they learn the language, attend school, and participate in the normal daily activities of the youth of that country. They share experiences and ideas and develop friendships which serve to strengthen ties between he countries. Jason has a 3.99 grade point average at Pleasant Grove High School, where he has been active as Activities Chairman of the student council, a member of the newspaper and yearbook staff, a member of the varsity tennis team, member of Future Business Leaders of America, member of the drama club, and a member of (he National Honor Society. Dr. Dickerson has strong ties in Pleasant Grove where his grand-father was born and raised. Dr. Dickerson is a member of the LDS Church where he serves as a member of the high council. I . Chad Maxfield Receives Eagle ... i ..I 1 alj Chad Maxfield became an Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor held July 27. A member of Troop 162 in the Pleasant Grove Fifth Ward, Chad is the son of Paul and Marilyn Maxfield. Ke is H years of age and will be in the ninth grade. Chad enjoys parti-cipating in baseball, football, and snow and water skiing. He placed first in region and state wrestling and fourth in the western states. He has served as senior patrol leader, Deacons Quorum president, and is now serving as president of the Teachers Quorum. For his Eagle project he planted a large planter box at the church parking lot. With organized manpower from Troop 162 they ''"ed and planted CHAD MAXFIELD flowers, trees, shrubs and bricked in a foot-path for walking. He has earned 41 merit badges, his Arrow of Light, On My Honor Award and has been accepted to attend the World Jamboree in Canada in 1983. |
