Show Thursday, December 10, I S 1 - Page 14 New Babies In Christmas Stockings Babies born at the American Fork Hospital during December are being sent home wrapped in Christmas stockings. "I have made 48 stockings this year," said Emma Parker, slocking chairman for the Pink Ladies Auxiliary, and these will go home with the holiday season infants. Mrs. Parker has been making the stockings for the Pink Ladies for the past six years, and served on the stocking committee prior to that. "I enjoy making them. It's fun and not that hard," she says. It's Ihe Plasler (Jallery and Craft located in the American Fork Shopping Center next lo Albertson's Foods. Sondra and Draney Smilh are Ihe owners and operators and have found American Fork "very receptive, so friendly." The Smiths chose lo open a crafts center in American Fork because Sondra says she sensed a real need lor such a store here. "We live in Midvale and drive down every day, bul I don't mind, we fell we wanted to be where the needs were." Open Monday thru Saturday from It) a.m. lo (i p.m., Plasler Callery has everything one can imagine in their line of plaster items lo paint; from a life-siz- e lion cub to a four-foo- l wild wesl cowboy. There are alphabet Idlers, plaques, picture frames, nativity scenes, Santa, chess pieces and tables, even an elephant large enough for a child lo sil upon. Darth Vadar lurks upon one wall, a happy mushroom on another. There's a piggy bank large enough to save several hundred pen-nies. Plasler Callery has all Ihe paints, glazes and sprays that add the finishing touch lo a project. Mrs. Smilh says they are just slarling lo work w ilh Ihe new suede paints and leather paints, too. "Our purpose is lo show people all the new techniques, and I here are so many, I jusl keep learning all Ihe time," says Mrs. Smilh. The techniques can be picked up at classes that are held regularly at the Gallery on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 until 9 p.m. and on W e d n e s d a y s a n d Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Classes cost $5 for six evening lessons, and $4.50 for three day sessions. "They can choose any project, however large or small, and we help them see how to do il so they're happy wilh it ." Some children are coming lo Ihe classes on Saturdays, and Mrs. Smilh says they are welcome if I hey are really inl crested in learning about plaster craft. "This is a family store," she explains, "I have my children here helping me and we're all together in this." She notes thai besides plasler, which she says she loves to work with because it is versatile and easy lo repair if broken, the store carries a line of carved wooden names to paint, baskets and mats lo go with Ihe plasler work, counted cross stitch cloth (known as har-dinger) and yarns and ribbons to highlight the plaster projects. "See the corn with the husks on the wall? That's a new thing we're just trying, putting real husks with plaster corn. Doesn't it make it in-teresting?" asks Mrs. Smith.
