Show I Ingram Speaks To ADAGE By SHARON MORREY Dr. Craig Ingram, a professor from BYU's Educational Psychology Department, told members of , ADAGE they "are the most healthy thing he's seen in Utah County so far" and he hopes the association for gifted children can snowball their efforts for gifted education. "I've seen a lot of unhappy, lazy, bright kids who don't know what to do or who even like themselves," said Ingram, "it's our job as parents to prepare them and ourselves to help these kids, help them discover their potentials, their self-worth." Ingram and his compatriot, Dr. Sally Todd, shared their ideas about working with and supporting gifted children with a smattering of Alpine District patrons who attended the monthly ADAGE meeting last Thursday evening at Lehi Junior High. Ingram and Todd are experts in the field of gifted education and are currently compiling a book that deals with a spectrum of problems confronting con-fronting bright children and their families in modern society. "We can't share everything we nave in one hour," apologized Todd, 'but we can give you some basics from the first three chapters that we 'eel are universal axions." Todd and Ingram explained that in supervising gifted and talented children, parents must first define tnetf own stewardship and stress hat's positive, terminate what's negative. 'Teach correct principles, have the child set goals in harmony with these Principles, then prepare yourselves as a source of help. When the child needs help, be sure he knows he can for that help and get it - if not rm you, through you. Have the child l"en evaluate his progress." 'ngram says a lot of gifted children "ever learn to account for their Progress or lack of it and they regress to the mean." 1 think there we lose a lot of in-Ingr in-Ingr U3' enerSy'" commented Tdd and Ingram both stress sealing a balance for children who ay feel different, odd or estranged m their peers.
