So do city recreation departments, some schools and most sporting goods stores. Flaming Gorge Mecca For Nature Lovers I!' Traversing this recreation paradise is Flaming Gorge Dam. ..a pristine edifice in itself. The arch Dam. completed in H)li2 as part of l he Colorado River Storage Project, rises 502 feet above bedrock and creates a lake extending upstream for 91 miles. The beautiful green pine sellings and hidden coves of the reservoir provide excitement and delight to the exploring boater. Flaming Gorge derives its name from the red rock that forms the sides of the gorge. The rock is so brilliantly red that it appears to be on fire. Complete commercial facilities for the traveler are available in Manila, county seal of Daggett County. For those traveling, by automobile the town is 65 miles north of Vernal on Highway 44. There are also two airports servicing the , area: one at Manila (paved and lighted) and one at Dutch John.
