In 16, the City Recreation Department started the program for older men who couldn't or didn't want to keep up with the then popular fast break LDS teams. The "older" guys played weekly in the girl's gym at the old junior high school where the baskets are 9'6" from the floor and the court is 75 feet long. Players on the first year's cham pionship team included "Duke" and Kay Giles, Bob Davis, Don Crump, Jack Hill, John Gourley and Jerry Parduhn - all long-sinc- e retired. The program stayed "slow break" for three more years and was moved to the high school gym where teams sponsored by Gene Carter and later Erv Pack captured first place. When the church program went to volunteer officials and eliminated the h Tournament, the city opted to go "fast break."
