The judging was weighted heavily on talent but the entrants also modeled swimsuits and evening gowns. Baker said she chose an off-the-shoulder peach-colored gown for the occasion and sang "I Only Want to be With You" for the talent competition. Baker is 18 years old, the second oldest of seven children in the Baker family that performed with the Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice. She has considerable experience singing and skating with the family "But this was really the first thing I have done on my own," she said. As part of her new responsibilities Baker will appear at the Summit County Fair Aug. 16-18 and she will represent Summit County at the Utah State Fair pageant in September. Next June she will compete for the Miss Utah title. She received a scholarship for the college of her choice for winning the local pageant, which she said will be used toward her tuition at Brigham Young University next fall. She is planning to study performing arts. According to Laura's mother, "we were really surprised she won. There was some excellent talent and the competition was very tough." v . V.:. , .... '.
