Show Competition light for Junior Golf crown by Randy Hanskat Doug Vilven, head pro at the Park City Municipal Golf Course, said there was a light turnout Monday for the Junior Club Championship. Monday's tourney ended the hands-on hands-on portion of this year's Junior Golf Program with only the banquet remaining. Vilven said only 25 of the 75 participants in the program showed . up to contest the club crown Monday morning. The small turnout didn't surprise him, though. He said many sign up for the scramble (where four players make up a team), fewer for the two-man best ball event and fewer yet for the individual championship. "Usually it's the avid ones who come .out (for the championship)," he said. "They are the kids who've practiced more on their own." Only one girl, 12-year-old Rachel Mohns, was in the field. Her score of 70 for nine holes netted her a winning trophy. For the boys it was Chris Reynolds taking the top spot in the 7-8-year-old class. He showed 39 for six holes. James Rossetti nabbed second at 41. Brian Dalton scooped up the honors in the 9-10-year-olds. Dalton played the entire nine h.oles, slashing to a 64. Baseball's Brody Pollard snaked in for first in the 11-12-year-old bracket, scorching a 55 for nine. Josh Hunter was second in that group with a 61. Finally it was Dan Pelton's 49 that was the best score of the day. Pelton burned up the course for a 49 to take the 15-year-old group. With golf behind them the members of the Junior Golf Program can look forward to the Awards Banquet to be held the last week in August. The event will be catered by Texas Red and will be held at the golf course. The date has not been announced. |
