TonvlJtlev Nice work, Al Editor: During the last two months Park City found itself embroiled in a major controversy regarding real estate signage. In that our community is heavily dependent on real estate development and sales for its financial well-being, this issue became very highly charged. Unfortunately, with accusations and tempers flying wildly, the residents of Park City were unable to see an important aspect of the issue. Regardless of whether or not you supported City Councilman Al Horrigan in his attempt to ban or limit real estate signs, it must be remembered why we elected Al Horrigan to City Council in the first place. We voted for Al because we were tired of the way city government was being run. We wanted someone who would take the unpopular stand, suffering the scorn of his colleagues in both business and government, in order to represent the views of the "common person." This is what Al promised he would do when he campaigned for office in 1983, and this is what he has done. After seeing way too many 5 to 0 votes by Council on important issues affecting all of us, it was a very revitalizing experience to see one man fight against phenomenally one-sided odds in order to represent the populace of this community. Councilman Horrigan deserves our respect and thanks: not necessarily for his position on real estate signs, but for the courage and sense of duty he displayed in fighting for what he believed in.
