This is JtV, ' y l another in the August series of CayN J musicals written by Cole Porter. iimm The 1936 film features dancer Eleanor Powell, along with Jimmy Stewart, singing "Easy to Love." It plays at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 75 cents). A .. . ..,,, -At the Blue Mouse : "Flesh Gordon" is an X-rated trip through the galaxy; "A Woman in Flames" uses the story of a housewife-turned- . hooker to examine middlelass mores; and "Testament a sincere but lachrymose look at a quiet suburban neighborhood after the bombs fall. The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. -The Utah Media Center continues its Best and Worst series. This week is special, with two films from the uniquely inept director Edward Wood. "Plan 9 From Outer Space" is the story of grave robbers from the stars-a campy classic! It plays on Aug. 10 (9:30) and Aug. 11-12 (at 7:30p.m.) , "Glen or Glenda" is the sensitive story of a transvestive who craves to wear his girlfriend's sweater. It was narrated, for some reason, by BelaLugosi.lt plays on Aug. 11 and 12 at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $2.50 for adults ($3.50 for the double feature). The films play in the Salt Lake Art Center Auditorium at 20 South West Temple. -At the Media Center, a special showing of Walt Disney's "Tron takes you into the world of a computer, where the heroes (Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner) fight the evil Master Control Program. It plays on Aug. 10(7:30p,m.) and Aug. 11-12 at 5:30 p.m. MUSIC jtC Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Tk.. Reefer Band appear at a ParkWest concert on Friday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. t Tickets at all Datatix outlets are $11.25, or $13.25 on the concert day. No coolers, containers, booze, recorders or cameras are permitted. The Utah Symphony ends its summer series with an all-Tchaikovsky all-Tchaikovsky concert with conductor Charles Ketcham and Pianist Jon Klibonoff. Selections include the 1812 Overture, and tickets are priced at $10, $12 and $15. The concert will take place Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. at Symphony Hall and Aug. 11-12 at Snowbird, at 5 p.m. The symphony also gives a free concert on Aug. 9 at the Midvale City Park (350 West 7500 South) at7:30p.m. The Larry Jackstien Trio plays Trolley Square's Sixth South Amphitheatre on Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. The program is also broadcast live on KUER FM-90. The Mighty Flyers, a rhythm and blues group, plays the Zephyr Club, 301 So. West Temple. Aug. 9-11, with the first set at 9 p.m. The Jensen-Woodbury guitar duo return to Midway with a weekend series of concerts through August at the Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitor Center. The programs take place every Saturday at 8 p.m. The center is located by the golf course in the northwest corner of Heber Valley. Tickets are $5 each or $10 for a family at the door. THEATRE j The new version of "THIS is the . X Place," Park City's centennial musical, plays every Friday and V Saturday through Sept. 2. It shows at Xs Main Street's Egyptian Theatre and admission is $4.50. This week the program stars Dick Cummings, Collyn Adamson and Jill Snyder. The Intermountain Actors Ensemble brings you the third year of its Park City Shakespeare Festival, this time at the ice rink of the Park City Resort Center. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" plays Thursdays through Aug. 23. "Twelfth Night" is featured on Fridays through Aug. 24. And "Richard III" plays on Saturdays through Aug. 25. Curtain is 8 p.m. Prices are $7 for adults, $6 for students-seniors-Kimball Art Center members, and $15 for all three shows. "How the West Was Sung," a dinner theater revue, plays Saturday at Prospector Square. Dinner begins at 5:30 followed by the show at 7 p.m. The cost for both is $14.95 for adults and $5.95 for kids. The '20s melodrama "The Bat" plays Thursday-Saturday through Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. at Theatre 138, 138 South Second East. "Hats Off to Hollywood" opens Aug. 10 at the Triad theater. It plays nightly, except Sunday through Sept. 1, with each old-time Hollywood studio saluted in song. Music includes "As Time Goes By," "Singin' in the Rain," and a Shirley Temple medley. Tickets are $2, $3.50 and $4.50 at Datatix outlets. The Triad Center is at Third West, between North and South Temple. -"Saturday's Voyeur," an unforgettable look at Utah, plays Sundays (7 p.m.) and Tuesday-Saturday (8 p.m.) through August. The SLAC plays at 168 West Fifth North. "Fiddler on the Roof" plays at the Sundance Resort at 8:30 p.m. on odd calendar dates through Sept. 3. "Pippin" continues on even calendar dates through August at 8:30 p.m. (Both schedules exclude Sundays.) Dress warmly for Sundance's outdoor theater. -The musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress," at the Lagoon Opera House, plays Tuesday-Saturday through Aug. 25. The V!mW?K.4Ji? show runs to Aug. 30. -The Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State, presents "Cosmos: The Voyage to the Stars," with narration by Carl Sagan. It plays weekdays (11 a.m., 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.), Saturdays (2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 and 4:30 p.m.). The children's star show, "Circus of the Stars and Planets" plays at the Hansen, Saturday at 11 a.m. The rock group Rush stars in "Laser Rush H" at the Hansen, on Thursday (8:30 p.m.) and Friday-Saturday (9:45 and 11 d m ) Prices and $4 general and $3 for childrenseniors.
