Show PC Resident Wins Race Park City resident, Jillbette Fletcher recently took first place in the girl's 13-16 age division of the Delta Air Lines Charity Ski Classic. Fletcher received a full day pass to Park City Ski Resort for her achievement. The event raised $2,245.00 in this, its third year. Delta Air Lines sponsors this Charity Ski Classic each year for the benefit of the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Association of Utah. All proceeds from the charity event go to UCP, mainly for it's Camp Kostopulos, which is located in Emigration Canyon. In addition to the Charity Race, a special demonstration demonstra-tion of handicapped skiers, sponsored by the Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped, was presented to kick off the day's events. Disabled skiers diligently and courageously coura-geously displayed their skiing ski-ing skills with the help of specially designed skiing equipment. Chesley Erickson, President Presi-dent of UCP of Utah and Camp Kostopulos, pointed out that just as athletes learn to compensate for weaknesses weakness-es in strength or agility, so can the handicapped. "Not only do our handicapped handicap-ped friends learn skills, but they develop independence and reach their potentials when they are allowed to challenge themselves," explained ex-plained Erickson. |
