Show School Board Discusses Graduation Requirements In what was basically a housekeeping meeting, the Board of Education Tuesday did consider two items of old business. They discussed, at length, first the issue of minimum competency testing and requirements re-quirements needed to receive re-ceive a diploma. It has previously been the policy at the high school to issue one of two types of diplomas if the student was to graduate, either a regular diploma, if the student had passed the minimum testing requirements, or a special education diploma. This year, however, there are five seniors who have not met the minimum testing requirements, but who are not special education students. stud-ents. While some of these students may pass their tests before June, the Board felt they must consider the problem and determine what type of diploma, if any they would issue if the students did not pass their tests. After much discussion, the Board decided to issue a provisional diploma to whomever has not passed the required tests by graduation. gradua-tion. The student may then come back, at any time, and complete the requirements for graduation if he or she so desires. If not, their diplomas diplom-as will state the area in which they have failed to qualify for a regular diploma. The only other action taken by the Board, other than approving regular monthly matters, was the approval of the policy that, where available at competitive competi-tive prices, the Board will henceforth purchase their supplies from local vendors and suppliers. The Board also determined determin-ed they wanted to revise their policy concerning rental of school facilities on the week-ends and at night. That matter will be discussed at a future meeting when the Board determines what their policy will be. |
