Show Letters generate first class revenues. reve-nues. The people in Park City have worked diligently in attempting to get liquor sales redistributed to a point of origin, after all, why should the people of Orem or Provo get the lions share of the tax dollar when the majority of their population admit publicly that they do not imbibe in distilled spirits? I can remember several years ago when a local community in the Salt Lake Valley almost started World War III with the location of a potential liquor store in their neighborhood. With the type of philosophy philoso-phy demonstrated by some of our legislators our local representatives have definitely defin-itely a full time job in protecting our tax rights. Keep up the good work. Bruce Barcal Good Work! Dear Editor: Last week, KPCW interviewed inter-viewed our Mayor Jack Greene who along with Helen Alverez and Tina Lewis have been actively influencing our law makers on behalf of the people of Park City. The Mayor pointed point-ed out that regarding sales tax and liquor tax, new formulas should be structured structur-ed to benefit our resort community which has a small population for six or seven months of the year then blossoms to three or four times it's regular size, thus creating a burden of regular services and eventually increasing in-creasing our tax base. The concepts that our city representatives are discussing discuss-ing with our legislators makes absolute economic sense. It was pointed out, that some of our self righteous legislators wanted the liquor tax distribution based upon the amount of arrests for driving while under the influence of alcohol. This can do nothing but create a negative effect upon the image of other people regarding their impressions im-pressions of Utah. A little known situation arose with the . Utah Highway Patrol where a trooper was arresting arrest-ing people for DUI, furthermore, further-more, he had one of the highest arrest rates within the Highway Patrol but, he was not obtaining any convictions. The Highway Patrol conducted an internal investigation and the trooper resigned. This proves that when dollars especially large amounts of tax dollars are awarded on the basis of arrest there are going to be abuses within the system. Also, this means that communities com-munities like Park City with small police forces' would probably rather opt to drive a potential road hazard to it's front door step rather than making the long trip to Coalville. Our elected representatives representa-tives from Park City have shown a great deal of foresight in attempting to restructure the taxation system sys-tem of points' of origin or temporary population is the number ot beds the community commun-ity actually has available in which we must eventually provide services. This is' a very difficult job considering Park City is a City of the thiid class, even thoush we . 7 w |
