Show Art Festival is for kids, too ;;Sr-V :r::jyv;imK ' if.- ?: .'-"Spv 1 V. . I ! 'IW'Mmm ' f U J , ; Between the heat, the crowds and the "do not touch" signs, the Park City Art Festival is not an ideal environment for children. But this year, once again, young people can look forward to a mini-festival just for kids. The Children's Art Fair, a crowd pleaser for the last two years, will be held at the Memorial Building midway up Main Street at the heart of the Park City Art Festival. There, out of the sun and away from the madding crowd, young visitors will have the opportunity to create their own masterpieces (dough sculptures, bean necklaces and bean bags) and stretch their muscles under the direction of the Granger Gymnastics Team and a local breakdancing troupe. "In the past, we have noted many unhappy children at the Festival," said Barbara Felt, director of the Guys and Dolls Preschool. "The Park City Art Festival is not designed for children, it is designed for adults. Children need to be able to hold and touch things, but on the street, they can't. So we've provided a place for them to do that in an atmosphere where they can have fun and enjoy the freedom to create their own art forms," she said. The Children's Art Fair will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, during the Park City Art Festival, Aug. 3 and 4. A nominal admission fee will be charged to help cover the cost of supplies. On Saturday, the Granger Gymnastics Gym-nastics Team will give a performance and workshop from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Members of the Janet Gray Dance Studio will perform from 2 :30 to 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Salt Lake Breakdancers will teach their craft to willing audiences from 1 to 3 p.m. The breakdancers will be followed by local storytellers from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Stephanie Andrus (left) and Amanda Felt show the Children's Art Festival can be a change of face for young people. |
