Show Fishing Reminders Several new fishing regulations should be kept in mind as fishermen prepare for the opening weekend of the general fishing season May 30-31. A six-trout limit will be in effect for the opening weekend for all areas of the state. The regular eight trout limit will be in effect for the remainder of the season. The purpose of the six trout limit is to reduce the large take on the opening weekend, so the quality of fishing will be kept at a high level during the following weeks. In all streams and rivers of the state, a daily bag or possession limit must not include more than two trout or salmon over 13 inches. The size limit is an effort to increase the number of large fish in" rivers and streams. On the Provo River, between the Highway U-35 bridge east of Woodland and the Olmstead diversion six miles below the Deer Creek Reservoir dam, all brown, brook and , cutthroat trout over 13 inches must be released. On this stretch of river, the limit for each of these species is two. The normal limit of eight applies to rainbow trout in this portion of the Provo River. Artificial flies and lures will only be allowed on the Provo River between the U-35 bridge and the Olmstead diversion All brown, brook and cutthroat trout over 13 inches must be released. The limit for each of these species is two fish less than 13 inches long. The normal limit of eight applies to rainbow trout in this portion of the river. However not more than two rainbows more than 13 inches should oe kept. "This is an effort to protect some of the larger fish in the Provo River and actually increase the number of large fish," says Glenn Davis, Division fisheries program coordinator. "It will take a few years to evaluate this regulation on the Provo River." The Olmstead diversion is about four miles from the mouth of Provo Canyon. On all other streams and rivers in Utah, only two trout or salmon over 13 inches may be kept. During the opening weekend of the general season, May 30-31, a six trout limit will be in effect on all waters of the state. The eight trout limit will be in effect the remainder of the season. |
