Show Energy Funds The Utah Energy Office is currently assisting schools, hospitals, local governments, and public care institutions in preparing grant applications lor nearly -SI million in floral Ijnds For i stcrgy .n.scivitioM pi ejects and tcvbm.Ml energy audits. The lands arc made available under the U.S. Department of Energy's Instil ulinal Conseivaton Program (ICP) and are adminsitered by the Utah Energy Office. Approximatlcy $850,000 is available for schools and hospitals and approximately $125,000 is available for local governments and public care institutions, all grants are awarded on a 50-50 matching basis. "Grant recipients during 1981 have begun to realize savings from 10 to 40 percent on energy consumption and expenditures," according to Michael Glenn, ICP Manager at the Utah-Energy Office. Some conservation activities undertaken during 1981 by schools and hospitals include increasing insulation, replacing incandescent lighting with flourescent lighting, arid performing boiler efficiency modifications. In addition, these facilities have increased the efficiency of existing" environmental control systems and performed energy audits to pinpoint areas of energy waste in individual structures. Local governments and public care institutions are limited to funding to perform technical energy audits only. |
