The Historic district Commission Com-mission is responsible for providing the city council with aesthetic and architectural architec-tural guidance with respect to projects within the city's historical district. The first meeting of the Park City Historic District Commission took place Monday Mon-day at Marsac School. Those attending the meeting included inclu-ded City Planning Director, Bill Legety, planner Jennifer Harrington and commission members. The group reviewed a sign presentation put together by graphic artist Ted Nagata of Salt Lake City. Nagata reviewed pictures of the signage on Main Street explaining" the good and bad points of what visitors currently see along the city's historic thoroughfare. There were more bad points than good ones according to Nagata but he did give high marks to signs used by The Irish Camel, The Deli, Leather Works, Wooly West, Natural Foods, Snow Country, Coun-try, General Mercantile and the Ritz umbrellas. Nagata pointed out the key elements in good design are good typography, color, materials, ma-terials, spacing of words and letters, appropriateness and simplicity of message. The commission will be responsible for reviewing all signage used in an historical area and had, therefore, asked Nagata for his exper-. exper-. tise to help them formulate standards and guidelines. The commission also decided decid-ed to recommend that the city council use Morroccan brown colored bricks in the new Main Street sidewalk.
