Show Iron Starts Little Kate House Fire A fire last Saturday afternoon after-noon was quickly contained by volunteer firemen at the Kock residence, 1901 Little Kate Road in Holiday Ranch. Park City Fire Marshall Herb Johnson said the fire apparently started in a storage room and was caused by an iron left on for more than five months. The iron was last used, according to the occupants of the house, in early spring to wax skiis. Johnson said eventually the thermostat burned out in the appliance and the bottom of the iron melted away. The heat from the exposed coils ignited clothing and eventually event-ually burned a hole through the wall of the home. The Fire Marshall added liiat the heat also melted the couplings on a copper pipe which released a flow of water that helped put the fire out. "It acted just like a built in fire sprinkler system," Johnson said. There are no precise damage dam-age estimates yet. |
