Show Candidate Profile: Ann Prince I have lived in the Park City school district for thirteen years. All of my children, in grades twelve, nine, six and three, attend Park City schools. I have been actively involved in civic and school projects since moving here. One of my early involvements was as a member of the Park City Community Park committee. I was secretary, treasurer of this committee under the chairmanship of Bud Gas-parac. Gas-parac. Our small group, with Gasparac. Our small group, with many, many hours of volunteer work, raised funds to obtain a building, install restrooms, build a tennis court, and piant grass, making a park for the community. I have worked in the Girl Scouts as a district organizer, neighborhood neighbor-hood chairman, and a leader. I've been a den mother for Cub Scouts. I have been a member of the board of directors of the Park City Chamber of Commerce and organized the first "ski kick-off dinner." I was elected P.T.A. president in 1972 and initiated the school volunteer program. I acted as chairman of the Concerned Citizens Action Group in our sucessful fight against consolidation consolida-tion by the Utah legislature of the Park City, North Summit, and South Summit school districts. I am currently on the board of trustees of the Kimball Art Center, secretary of the Park City School Community Council, and a volunteer teacher's aid. 1 am seeking this school board position because I'd like a voice in the decisions affecting our children. child-ren. I would speak out with questions, ideas, and observations observa-tions from my participation in the schools. I believe our schools, in Park City and across the country, have been too permissive in the past few years. I would support a more traditional education. This includes discipline enforced with parental participation and involvement in-volvement when needed, stressing stress-ing the need for good work habits, respect and courtesy. I would stress continued upgrading up-grading of curriculum. I think new programs should be researched re-searched but not necessarily accepted just because they are "new." We must petition the Utah legislature to realign our school district to include all the children attending Park City schools. The present boundaries deprive a large number of parents of Park City school children of a voice in the education of their children. We must initiate proceedings to realign the Park City voting precincts. One half of our school enrollment resides outside city limits and these people presently elect only one of the five school board members. 1 think we must strive for better communications in our school system and between the community commun-ity and the schools. I am willing to devote the time required to give precinct 5 effective representation. |
