Show Water Bond Must Be Approved Park City applied for a $890,000 federal grant this week which, ii approved, would create local jobs, add finishing touches to the City's water improvement project, and result in the re-surfacing ol almost every street in town. The grants are being made available to municipalities via recently adopted Public Works Bill sM-3tV). This is a piece ot legislation which seeks to reduce the nation's unemployment rate by creating new jobs in the private sector through federal!) funded improvement porjects. Should the grant go through, the funds would enable the city to double its present water storage capacity by constructing a second reservoir in Empire Canyon There would also be funds for the replacement of worn out principal trasmission lines whi n brint! Park City's cullinary .atcr from its source deep wit'.un the Judge Mine. There would be enough moncv left over to resurface all streets damaged during the extensive improvement project. (City Manager Man-ager Wayne Matthews said that because of the extensiv e nature ol the improvement project, practically practi-cally every Park City street would be dug up. and have to paved or rc-paved afterwards.) Matthews gives the grant "a damn good chance" of receiving federal approval. Because of the nature of the agency which appropriates the funds, local people would be given preference for the numerous jobs w hich the project would create. |
