Show CROSS-EMIi SALT LAKE. Dec. 13 In the cross-cxamluation cross-cxamluation of Clarence Walker, son of Mrs. Althca Walker, widow or tho late D. F. Walker, before Charles W. Baldwin, ma3ter of chancer' of the United Stales district court, this morning. Attorney C. C. Dey discovered discov-ered that the oung man, accompanied by Attorney John E. Bennett, went to the safety deposit box iu the Utah Savings Trust company's bank and took out a valise filled with stocks and bonds. This property. Walker declared, belonged to his mother, and it was taken to San Francisco on September Sep-tember 13, when the body of Mr Walker was shipped for burial. After arriving In San Francisco Bennett made out a list of the stocks and bonds, but Walker could not remember remem-ber what they were. He finally remembered re-membered that there were touie Western West-ern Pacific railroad bonds and soruo capital stock of the Utah Light & Railway Rail-way company. The witness sold Bennett Ben-nett prepared the list, but that he did not read It over or look at all the securities. When the bearing adjourned ad-journed at noon, Attorney Dey was siill attempting to find out If any of the securities wore included In the list on which tho citation charging tbem with being in contempt of court for removing the property from tho state. During the early morning session, Attorney Dey attempted to trace the little mysterious trunk which appeared Monday In the case L. A Paul, baggage bag-gage clerk of the Salt Luke Transfer company, was called as a witness. On Octover 2, Paul said the company handled four trunks for the Walkers, which were taken from the residence' at 13G.', East South Te'njde street Paul did not see the little black trunk, which was sealed and wired ; H. T. Shirley, who is employed by the transfer trans-fer company took an order for 0110 trunk, which he got at the residence of B. G. Ruybould at 5Gl South West Temple street, but he did not see the little trunk. When Clarence Walker was first called to the stand be was questioned iu regard to the trunk. He remembered remem-bered this morning about putting it In a crate with some household goods and believed that it went to San Francisco Fran-cisco by freight. Further than this, however, he did not remember anything any-thing about it, and could give no apparent ap-parent reason for sealing and wiring it before packing for shipment. During tho afternoon Walker occupied oc-cupied the stand, and the hearing will probably be concluded late this afternoon. |
