Show CEMENT HIGHWAYS ACR0SSC0UNTRY DENVER, Dec. 13 Cement highways high-ways from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts are proposed in a plan presented pre-sented today to the Colorado Conser- at ion commission by John Brlsben Walker. The commission adopted a resolution approving of Mr. Walker's plan and asking the legislators of the 17 states more immediately Interested to ship money for the furtherance of tho plan and petition congress to take action. Mr. Walker believes that the cost of transportation of pasensgera and freight from the Atlantic and Pacific may be cut in half if the federal government gov-ernment and the states to be traversed travers-ed will construct scientifically built highways as follows: From Denver to the Mississippi at St. Louis From Denver to the Great Lakes at Chicago From Denver to the gulf at Galveston. Galves-ton. From Denver to the Pacific ocean at Seattle. From Denver to the Pacific ocean at San Francisco and IOs Angeles. Mr. Walker presented an clabora.ro array of fieure and maps to prove that the rates for haulage over such highways would be only 0 per cent of the existing railway rates. His idea s for the government to pay half the cost of the highways and the states traversed the remainder. |
