On request of President Hey wood of the Weber club, tho division officers of-ficers of the Harrlmau system have prepared a map showing a uumber of proposed extensions of the Harrlmau sstem which Itljs contemplated will be constructed the not distant future fu-ture in tbe intermountaiu and Pacific Pa-cific coast reglou. The map Is now on exhibition at the club rooms ami is uttractlng much attention from those interested in the development of resources in this vicinity. Besides the proposed routes, the map also shows tbe approximate loCiu tlon of the Klamath Falls and Wads-worth Wads-worth line which is now under construction. con-struction. More than fifty miles of this new road has been built from the northern terminus at Xatron, Oregon, and a large quantity of steel and track material has been stored near Wadsworth ready to be used ra soon as operations at that point shall have been commenced. Thi6 Klamath Falls-Wadsworth lino will practically parallel the Nevada. Ne-vada. California & Oregon line from Reno to the Madeline Plains district and will then take its direction to the northwest until the heavily timbered tim-bered Clear Lake district Is reached. From this point the road will turn directly west and skirt Rhett and Lower Klamath Falls lakes In the vicinity of Dome mountain; thence northward, passing to tbe east of Upper Up-per Klamath lake, crossing the southwest south-west corner of the Klamath Indian reservation and pursuing a northwesterly northwest-erly course to Its northern terminus, j 'The road will pass close to famous I Crater lake, which will probably become be-come one of the most widely boasted sights on the line. A small line is also contemplated, starting from Klamath Falls and running run-ning southwest to (Irenada. California a small rtallon some forty miles south of the Oregon state line. This will provide an outlet from the Klamath Falls district io San Francisco. Next In importance of the new routes shown on the map Is that which is contemplated between Owen-yo, Owen-yo, California, to Mlna, Nevada. A narrow gauge road already exists along this route and it is proposed to construct a standard gauge throughout, through-out, which, when completed, will provide pro-vide an entirely new through route from Portland to I.os Anceles via. Klamath Fa lis. Wadsworth, Fort Churchill," Walker Lake, Nevada. Owens Lake, California, Mojave.Cali-forula. Mojave.Cali-forula. etc. The line from Mojave to the Owens Like district was constructed con-structed at tho time of the starting ol the great aqueduct which the city of Ios Augeles has been building for several years as a source of water supply for the city. Another proposed route on the map runs from Pasalt. Nevada, to Eureka, Nevada, and thence northward to tho main line, the exact terminus not havlug been decided upon. As both Rattle Mountalu and Elko are desirous desir-ous of securing the terminus, It Is likely that some station midway between be-tween the two will be selected. Palisade Pali-sade bxlnc spoken of with considerable consider-able favor. Alibough the survey of Uils line h.T been run via.. Eureka. Nevada, it Is probable that the road will swing off to the west of this town taking a shorter cut via Ixw-ry. Ixw-ry. Rutte. There is also shown a proposed Hue running from Winnemucca. Nevada, Ne-vada, northward through western Oregon Ore-gon to a point opposite Payette, Idaho. Ida-ho. Another Btarts from Wells, Nevada, Ne-vada, and pursuing a northwesterly course. Joins the orecon Snort Line line at Murphy, Idaho, and thence to Nampa. The much-talkf d ot" line from Sa- line, fn the Salt Lake cut-off, northward north-ward to join the Twin Falls branch at Rupert. Idaho, is also shown. |
