Show MORGAN INTERESTS AT RATE HEARING WASHINGTON, Nov. 22. The Investigation In-vestigation of the proposed freight advances ad-vances in the eastern trunk lino territory ter-ritory was resumed before the Interstate Inter-state Conimerce Commission today, the shippers continuing the presentation presenta-tion of their case. C. J. Bertschy of Milwaukee, traffic manager of a brewing brew-ing company, testified that the advances advan-ces would result In $172,510 of additional addi-tional expense to his concern. He admitted that his appearance here as a witness was at the suggestion sugges-tion of George W. Perkins of J. P. Morgan & C Ihy New York banking house. He testified lhat. while opposed to the present proposes increase, he would have no objection to a general freight Increase If applied by the railroad rail-road uniformly throughout the United States. Frank Lyon, counsel for the Interstate Inter-state Commerce Commission, asked concerning the interest of Mr. Perkins In the mailer. Witness said Mr. Perkins Per-kins had suggested that the manufacturers manufac-turers aud the shippers would be welcome wel-come at this hearing but did not attempt at-tempt to indicate what position they would take. Mr. Gay said the suggestion from Mr. Perkins was made at an accidental acci-dental meeting with him in Washington Washing-ton a month ago Mr. Perkins ex plained that they hul been witnesses for the railroads, Hint I hey had been one-sided andthat he did not like It as be was Just as much Interested In manufacturing and producing as in the railroads. |
