Show ELLEN BEACH YAW "THE AMERICAN SINGER." Ellen Reach Yaw, the famous American Amer-ican Nightingale, whone extraordinary and beautiful voice, has been heard around the- world would seem to have the best claim to the much coveted1 title, "The American Singer." It Is apparent at once that any woman wom-an who lays claim -to this UUo must base her claim upon a wide range of artistic accomplishment. Tho singer must reach the hearts of the common people, that Is, she must know- how to interpret the simple sim-ple ballads, and the old-folks" sours, dear to the hearts of those to whom higher music Is but au empty name. The singer must be a mistress of the modem school of song-writing, the emotionalism of Strauss, Hugo Wolfi and others whoe simple songs, by the very stress of powerful thought, become tense dramatic pwrns The singer must be a mistress of the art of singing as laid down In the old Italian school, the field of "Del Canto." The singer must have triumphed tri-umphed In opera not In some obscure ob-scure opera house of Italy, but In at least one of tho great opera houses of the world The Metropolitan, which Is the greatest of all opera houses, preferred. Can you think of ftny other singer, save Miss Cllcn Beach Yaw. who has done all those things? Miss Yaw and company will ba heard at the Ogden Theatre next Sunday Sun-day evening, Nov. 2!Hb. |
