Show ARE HERE ON VERY SAD MISSION Thomas Vincent and his son Henry of Provo. came to Ogden this morning morn-ing to meet the body of their daugh- ter and sister, Mrs Nellie Murray, who died at Dominion, Alaska, May 12, of this year. The body was held In a morgue in the Alaskan city until September "0, at the request of the family at Provo. when it was shipped to Hie statea, the hu9band. William Murray accompanying it. Funeral ser vices will be lield at Provo and burial will lake place there. It is said thai Mrs Murray was the most prominent woman in the "bl : region of Alaska, she having gonoj there when but a .Mil and having amassed a fortune. When she pai l a visit to her people at Provo about four years ago she wore a gold nugget necklace that buug from her neck o tho ground and nt the time was said to be among the most highly priced necklaces of the country She was the first woman to enter the Klondike country and became popular among the gold hunters there because she' was the first to unfurl the American flag in the Klondike country. TJefuro she was twenty years of age, Miss Vincent was employed by tho Oregon Short Line railway company 1 as chief waitress in the dining rooms nt Salt Lake. Ogden. Pocatello and Portland. She went from Portland to Alaska about sixteen years ago, a number of other ladie.s who had the gold fever, starting out with her. The others abandoned the' trip befoiv they reached the cold re?ion. Miss Vincent was much admired for her pluck and became the idol of ruining ruin-ing men of that Feet ion. She ente red into the hotel business and continued in that line until her deaih, her husband hus-band now helng the postmaster, hotel keeper and merchant of the citv of Dominion. It is told by tho-e who remember, that Mrs. Vincent became well known In Ogden and was among the most popular and handsome young women of this city. Speaking of her this morning, an old resident of Ogden stated that he remembered Miss Vincent Vin-cent being vlctoilons In a dancing contest, con-test, she captivating the dancing fraternity fra-ternity by waltzing with a glass tumbler tumb-ler of water upon her head without spilling the water. Thomas Vincent is among the wealthy farmers of Utah county, the Vincent family being one of the pioneer pion-eer families of the state. |
