Show : PROFITS TOMATOES, Yesterday the Standard presented a concrete example of the profits in fruit raising- near Ogden. Today this paper calls attention atten-tion to the money to be made in tomato culture. Half a dozen farmers farm-ers delivering- tomatoes to one factory have averaged, over 25 tons to the acre, which, at $10 a ton, is $250. Somo of these tomato lands have been sold of late at a valuation of $100 per acre. What would an eastern farmer do, if his $100 land was bringing him a revenue of $250 an acre when planted to tomatoes? to-matoes? He would jump the price of his holdings to $500 an acre and would refuse to part with his land even at that price. This all goes to point to the fact that Ogden and neighborhood are in need of a little inflation, a boost or a boom. We are hiding our. wealth of resources, and, because of our modesty, are failing to receive the attention which other less worthy, less meritorious places are obtaining, |
