Besides Utah, the other states whose supervisors were present were South Dakota, western Montana, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona. Tho officials were in conference list Tuesday and Wednesday, the meetings meet-ings Icing held In the office of Mr. McCaffey, the supervisor for Colorado Colo-rado The purpose of the conference was that the officials could go Into minute details in person Instead of taking them up by correspondence. One mat ter that was given prominence was the fact of it being so essential that applicants ap-plicants for positions as enumerators state in the printed form the voting district in which they reside, as the enumerating districts and the voting precincts are the raivie. Another matter, mat-ter, the importance of which was Impressed Im-pressed upon the supervisors, was the obtaining of data regarding crops and range cattle and sheep, and the proper persons to obtain this Information. The supervisors were strictly enjoined en-joined to Impart no Information to the public. Any one who violates this rule will be dealt with vigorously. vigorous-ly. The maximum remuneration is $C per diem, but what It will be In Utah has not been determined The government govern-ment has made no allowance for transportation, trans-portation, and In the western states where long distances hae to be traveled trav-eled this will work a hardship Mr. McMlllin pave nn illustration of thl to the officials at Denver. A man going from Pluff to the Natural Bridges, In San Juau county, would have to take a pack horse and a enmp-Ing enmp-Ing outfit It would probably talid him three days to make the Journey before he would reach the point where his work really began; so that this was entirely different from tho man working In the city or the populous districts, Other supervisors presented present-ed similar illustrations. Assistant 1)1 rector Willoughby Instructed the sup ervlsors that In such cases as thoio presented ihoy 6hould write to Wash lngton an outline of the bare facts and every consideration would be gh en them The application blanks have arrived arriv-ed and will be distributed among the applicants at once |
