HOW HANDLING SAN PEDRO FCEICHT i Since the severe floods which destroyed de-stroyed many miles of the track of the San Pedro, or Clark, road down in Lincoln county all the freight and passenger traffic of that line Is being be-ing carried over the Southern Pa- i clflc and tho Tonopah & Godlfteld road. This Is the cause of the big ! Increase In traffic the past few days over the Southern Pacific, and extra men are in demand at the present ; time on this division. All tho westbound west-bound freight trains and paneen-gers paneen-gers of tho Clark road aro now de-toured de-toured from Salt Lake City via Og-den Og-den over the Short Line, thence, to Mlna, via Hazen. and then over the Tonopah & Goldfleld road to Gold-field, Gold-field, the terminal of tho branch i line of tho Clark road from Las j VegaB. The eastbound traffic of the J Clark road is detoured from Las Vegas, via Goldfleld, Mlna aud Ojr-den Ojr-den to Salt Lake City. This roundabout round-about route Is necessary on account of the destruction last week of about thirty miles of the San Pedro tracks through what la known as the Meadow Mead-ow Valley Wash In Lincoln county. Now It is announced that the line ; will not be rebuilt on the old grade. but an entirely new roadbed will be. 1 built, of a much higher elevation, so as to eliminate tbe danger of tho track being destroyed bv future floods Thin work of rebuilding tho . grade and track, it is said, will require re-quire at leaBt six months' time and I during all the roconbtructlon period I the Clark road traffic will be de- ' toured over the same Hues as at present This will Increase the Southern Pacific traffic between Og-den Og-den aud Mlna to enormous proportions propor-tions and require the employment of I a large number of extra men durin? the next six months. There is a big i demand for men already both on the Sail Lake division and the Tonopah 6 Ooldfleld road, the latter especially especial-ly being unable to handle the business busi-ness which is now being turned over I to It by the Clark road. It la stated also that two new regular passenger trains are to be put on the division of the Southern Pacific. Pa-cific. They will bo known as Nos. 7 and 8, and will be the Clark road passenger trains. A regular schedule will be established for these new passenger pas-senger trains, which doubtless will have a place on the next time card to J be Issued by the Southern Pacific |
