Show OGDEN SUGAR FACTORY CLOSED FOR SEASON The Ogden Sugar factory has closed for the season. The engines have I cooled, the outer doors secured and only the night watchman haunts the plant which for several months past has hummed night and clay with the activities of a busy campaign. Superintendent" E. S. Rolapp, who has entirely recovered from his recent illness, states that the factory ha? handled (35,000 tons of beets this season sea-son and has produced about 14,000,000 pounds of sugar. More beets were handled in 1003 than the previous year, but owing to the lower percentage of sugar contained contain-ed in the beets of 1908. the quantity of sugar prodiued is not much greater than that of 1907. Heavy rains occurred oc-curred just as the beets were acquiring acquir-ing the proper growth, causing them to continue to grow beyond the desired de-sired size. This resulted in a decrease in the percentage of sugar. |
