Show SUICIDE OF AN OLD - MAN GABRIEL ZWEISLER TAKES A DOSE OF CARBOLIC ACID. 1 He Had Been Jailed and by Mistake Placed in Chain Gang Ends Life on Gaining His Freedom. Gabriel Zweisler, a German carriage and automobile trimmer, died at tho police station at 2 o'clock this afternoon after-noon from poisoning, supposedly carbolic car-bolic acid. The old roan was picked up on Twenty-fourth street, apparently apparent-ly very 111, and hurriedly conveyed to the station In the patrol wagon. Dr. Morrell was called and did what he Could to prolong the man's life, but to no avail, the patient becoming unconscious uncon-scious Boon after bis arrival and passing pass-ing away within a few minutes. Officer Vance had his attention called to Zwelsler's condition shortlv after the man had fallen in front o'f a Twenty-fourth street shoe shop, the proprietor of which stated that he had noticed him passing back and forth in front of his place of business several times before he fell to the pavement Upon tho arrival of Ofll-cer Ofll-cer lyovcr and the patrol wagon, Zweisler stated that he was ery 111 and requested that he bo taken to the-hospital at once. A peroxide ."bottle containing a small quantity of that preparation was found in Zweiolera coat pocket and, the man resisted somewhat the efforts of the officer. to take it from him. A stomach pump was applied, but f.ie man lapsed Into unconsciousness from which he failed to revive. A strong odor ,f carbolic acid was nn. ticeable, and. although tne man's month and lips showed no slgu of burns from that liquid, it is supposed that he took a draft of it heavily diluted. di-luted.
