Gitft Johnson, employed as a machine ma-chine man at .the Southern Pacific stone quarry on the west side of the Ogdcn-Luein cut-off. was ground to pieces under the wheels of west bound Overland Limited train No. 1 at Lakeside Lake-side last evening. Tho accident occurred oc-curred Immediately in front of tho Lakeside railroad office, a few minute.? after fi o'clock, and the unfortunate man probably never kaew what struct him. Johnson was riding Into Lakeside siaiion on a woik mini ironi me west quarry and jumped (from tho car while the east-bound train was In motion. Ho failed to observe the west bound fast mail train, rushing through on the adjacent track, anl almost before the poor fellow landed on the roadbed from the flat car the mall train engine was upon' him and he was liicrally ground to atoms. The mall train was stopped as soon as possible, but only a bundle of quivering quiv-ering flesh and tattered garments remained re-mained of the stalwart working man of a moment before. The remains were removed from the track as soon as possible and Superintendent. Super-intendent. Manson's office notified of the accident. Lakeside Is located in Box Elder I county and the sheriff and coroner at" Brigham City were advised at once of the accident. They arrived in Ogdea last n,lght and, provided with a casket, cas-ket, left for Lakeside to investigate the accident. No blame Is attached to railroad employes and the accident' Is regarded regard-ed as unavoidable. Tho body will be brought to Ogden for Interment and the funeral will probably be conducted conduct-ed by Scandinavians of this city. Johnson has been stopping for several sev-eral months at a rooming house, 132 Twenty-fifth street, and was to have been married next week to a young lady residing on Grant avenue, In fact arrangements had been made for the marriage to take place as soon as he should return to town -with his next wages. Johnson came from Dallen, Sweden, Swe-den, where his relatives are living. |
