Show j PROVO NEWS. Provo, May 20. At the regular meeting of the city council last night. Division Superintendent C. C. Pratt, Attorney L. C. Wallace and Local Manager I. A. Smoot of the Bell Tele-Phone Tele-Phone company, appeared in the -matter of 'the franchise granted to the company about three weeks ago. Mr. Wallace stated that his company objected ob-jected to the franchlso wherein it establishes es-tablishes a rate clauae, and said that the company would never establish an unreasonable rate, and suggested a clause in place of that now in the franchise as follows: The council shall have the right to fix rates if the company's charges become unreasonable, unreason-able, and if the company does not accept ac-cept the rates as fixed from time to time by the council, and it Is necessary neces-sary for a court decision, then the city ha3 the right to nnqul the frani chfse, and the company will pay the costs of litigation. The matter was referred to the committee on railroads and telegraph lines, to be reported on in two weeks, j Mayor Decker extended an Invitation Invita-tion to the council to attend the function func-tion to be given on Friday at the B. Y. university, when Governor Sdtv and staff wil be hero, j The following bids for the construct- ing of 8,573 feet of sewer on Academy avenue were received and opened: J. H. Hanley, Salt Iikc City, $11,911.52; , Williams Plumbing company, Provo, $16,887; G. M. Wheelwright, Ogden. $10,547; II. G- Gilkerson et al. Salt Lake City. $14,949; Davis & Heuser, Salt Lake City, $10,995; J. II. I The competitive drill between the I Rocky Mountain degree team of Salt Lake and the Provo City lodge. No. 10, degree team, for a purse of $15, was won by the Salt Lake team.
