Show STINGS OF HONEY BEES ARE USED TO CURE RHEUMATISM New York, March 23. The stings from tho plain or garden variety ci tho honey bee are being used successfully suc-cessfully at Roosevelt hospital for the treatment of rheumatism. Dr. Arthur W. Swann, graduate of the College ot rhyslclans and Surgeons and a native oi Massachusetts, is conducting the experiments. He started them after recalling tho legend of his boyhood days that a bee Bting was a preventative of rheumatic pains. .Discussing tho method and results! Dr. Swann says: "I have tried the bee treatment on four obstinate caBes and at least two has resulted in a temporary Improvement Improve-ment in each case. I think this is based on the fact that the sting causes a counter Irritation, or that ths peculiar poison or tho bee sting acts ae an antidote to the uric acid whlcn cautes rheumatism. "It is too early yet to say anything about the ultimate result of my experiments. ex-periments. I hope to try it on somo sixty or seventy patients before 1 come to any definite conclusion, but as far as It has gone, I am well satisfied satis-fied with the experiment." |
