IT Judge Wright is correct In defining defin-ing the law. the police will be greatly handicapped iu attempting t,o break up bootlegging in rooming houses and hi her public places. Tho city attorney claims that, Inasmuch Inas-much as the license granted to a room lng house, specif fcally provides that the police have tho right to Investl gate i he property at any time to see that those living there are of gooiJ i character and that the prohibition j laws are not being violated, there Is no constitutional right Invaded when the police proceed to take advantage oi the agreement. Without the power to enter rooming houses at unexpected hours and. with I out warning, make a search the officers offi-cers would be unable to check the U- I licit traffic which, now and tben, flourish! flour-ish! - in fh rooming house district. |
