Show I NO SOVIET FOR HIM Ambassador 'Francis,, who is now in St. Louis, declares he will resign his post at'Petrogradj if the United States recognizes the Bol- shevik or soviet government. "When the Bolshevik gained control of Petrograd, Ambassador Francis was in charge of the American interests in the capital and I he personally met the mob which sought to enter the embassy and J kill and plunder. That experience with the Bolshevik has leffcfr. Francis in no uncertain frame of mind as to the character of the men who are directing the soviet government. He sees endless bloodshed blood-shed and wild excesses in the rule of the soviet and he prefers to. be a private citizen if it is a choice between remaining an ambassador and recognizing the soviet in Russia or resigning. Ambassador Frances was in a position to understand the motives back of the uprising which caused the massacre of 100,000 intellectuals intellec-tuals in Russia and the terrorizing of an entire nation. His verdict is against the Bolshevik, and in this he is in accord with an overwhelming over-whelming sentiment in the United States. |
