Charged I with first degree murder, Mrs.Maie Healy is in the county jail at Ely, Nev., in connection with the shooting of her husband, James C. Healy, at, their home in Ely Monday night. Residents of Eiy say that Mrs. Healys jealousy over Marie, 7-year-old daughter of her husband by a former marriage, prompted -the killing. Mrs. Kate Healy, S25 Hanover Place, Salt Lake, receied the following letter from tho child last night: "Dear Grandmother: Mamma killed papa with a gun-. She whipped me on May 2- and I ran away from her. The judge said I could live with Mrs. Morton. Mor-ton. 1 want to como and see you. "Your baby, MARY." Mrs. A. M. Byron, sister of the dead man, said today Mrs, Healy showed Jealousy of the child and of Healy's mother and sister when visiting here. Mrs. Byron said she had not kept in touch with the affairs of the family, and when the shooting occurred was at a loss to attributo a motive; but the child's letter, combined with the story told by neighbors, has convinced her Mrs. Healy shot her Husband in a fit of jealous rage. Funeral services for James Healy wero held today at the Masonic temple in Salt Lake City under the auspices of Acacia lodge No. 17. Interment was in j Mount Olivet cemetery. |
